Installation
As a matter of fact, no installation is required for this product, - you can
run it directly from the CD-ROM in one of two ways: by default, it should start
automatically, upon inserting of the disk into the drive, after which you should
choose the
"Run
from the CD" option, or you can do the same by double-clicking on
the SynthArt.exe file, which can be found in the root folder of the CD-ROM
drive, when browsing your system in Windows Explorer.
However, even on the fastest CD-ROM drive, running of the show might become a disappointing experience, - because of the many short delays and pauses happening when numerous, and often large, multi-media files are loaded from the disk by the show software. The best way to achieve the smoothest playback possible is to copy the contents of the whole CD-ROM (about 500 MB) to your hard disk. This can be done simply by using Windows Explorer and its 'drag-n-drop' copying feature, but a more automatic way of doing that is provided with the SynthArt's "CDStarter" program.
First, you have to create manually a dedicated folder on your hard disk, which
has a free space of at least 500 MB, for example "C:\SynthArtVolII"
(this is done via the Windows Explorer's "File / New -> Folder"
option). The rest is done by the SynthArt's software. When you insert the SynthArt
Vol. II CD-ROM in the drive, the "CDStarter" program is automatically
launched. It has the
"Install
SynthArt on your hard disk" choice, as the very first option of
the six available. When you click on this option's 'star' icon, you will be
asked to browse to the desired folder where the SynthArt will be installed,
- select the one you have just created in Explorer. After clicking on OK, the
whole CD-ROM's contents will be copied to the chosen hard disk and folder, -
and that can take rather long minutes (depending on your CD-ROM drive's speed),
so please be patient. But believe me, after you've got the show's contents on
your hard disk, this will definitely give you much smoother and enjoyable playback!
Not to mention that having installed it on the hard disk gives you many more
new ways to control and customize the SynthArt show (see the "What
can be customised" chapter).
Note that, when having the show placed on the hard disk, you will probably want to create a shortcut to the SynthArt.exe file and place it on the desktop, perhaps (since you won't be able to auto-start the copied show anymore in a CD-ROM manner). This is done by right-clicking on SynthArt.exe in Explorer and drag-and-dropping it onto a free spot (if you still have any) on your PC desktop. Or, you might just as well skip this step and keep on double-clicking on the application's exe file under Explorer, every time you want to start up the show.
When you decide you don't need the SynthArt files on your hard disk anymore, uninstalling it also a very simple procedure: just delete (manually) the folder that you created for SynthArt under Windows Explorer, and that's it! No SynthArt file or its trace of any kind will be left in your system after that.
