System requirements
This multi-media art show is a very advanced computer application, built using the latest achievements in the PC hardware and software technology. This means your computer should be equipped accordingly, in order to run this show smoothly. The minimum requirements hardware are:
For playing of the "Fractal Panoramas World" part of
the CD, it is necessary to have installed the Apple's QuickTime v4 software.
Since QuickTime is not a part of the standard Windows setup, the QT4 installation
routine is included in this disk startup sequence, - please click on the
icon
when the "CDStarter" program is launched, to install it to
your system. See the paragraph on QuickTime in the "The
Show's Peculiarities" section, regarding this.
The show was tested on (and designed for) these two systems: Windows98 Second Edition and Windows2000; any other flavor of Windows might have one or another trouble running it, - because of the many advanced, but not the most portable features of the software on which SynthArt relies. WindowsMe and Windows XP, as the successors of Win98 and Windows2000, respectively, could be the best second choices and can play the whole CD contents just fine, but the author didn't have a possibility to test the product thoroughly under these versions of Windows while it was in the development. No other OS or kind of the computer (Apple's Mac, Unix, SGI, Sun, etc.) is supported, - at least at this time, sorry...
The 1024x768 pixels resolution requirement on the user's video screen means that all the graphics contents of the show was specifically adjusted and suited for displaying in this, and only this, video resolution. Smaller installed screen resolutions will not display the whole of the show's window, while bigger ones will display the show's window in the upper left corner of the screen in a rather miniaturised manner. For this reason, the default SynthArt's startup program, called SynthArt.exe, switches the screen to this resolution automatically before running the show, and will restore the original one upon quitting it at any moment (this switching may cause a few-moments delay and some momentary black screen flashes, if your screen is not set by default to 1024x768).
If you are not happy with this and prefer to view the show in your usual screen environment, or you have it always set to 1024x768 anyway, then you should un-check the "Switch to 1024x768 res." option in the CDStarter program's window, to start it with bypassing the resolution-switching routine. If running SynthArt from the hard disk, the same can be done by launching the main show's file, SynthArtMain.exe, directly (in such case you might want to create a shortcut to this file, instead to SynthArt.exe).
